How is Collaboration a Key to Leadership in Parishes and Beyond?
This 2 hour session envisions clarifying concepts that may be helpful for parish leaders. It may be used for parish staff, ministry meetings, or the parish pastoral council for an evening or morning of reflection and in-service.
Approach to Implementation
A meaningful gathering prayer should open the session. Perhaps use the scripture reading from Acts 15:1-12 for Lectio Divina or for a brief time for faith sharing.
A power point presentation utilizing the work of Loughlan Sofield and James and Evelyn Whitehead, reflects on the meaning of collaboration, its gospel underpinnings, its relationship to ministry, and the characteristics of collaborative leaders. This presentation consists of 47 slides. A facilitator directs participants to form small groups prior to the power point presentation so that discussion may follow these slides as they are presented: 3, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 14, 15, 19, 20, 23, 24, 25-28, 30, 33, 36, 42, 43, 45-47.
Roles and Responsibilities
The environment will require a screen or blank wall for projection; small round tables or chairs in circles for 5 to 8 participants, and a prayer space arranged with Bible, candle, etc.
Parish leaders are provided questions for personal reflection and group discussion during the presentation that will assist them in augmenting their skills for collaborative leadership.
The Planning Office is available to assist with the facilitation of this session upon request. There are no handouts required.
